When I did mine I went to a carpet place and bought some foam underlay off the role. The type they use in houses every day.

I could have re-used the original "heshion" type, but it is lumpy, dirty and will hold water. (Thus the mouldy old pommy car smell, if you like that)

The new stuff is easy to shape and doesn't slide around.

Alex.

Gee I'm a slow typer. Two reply's before I finished LOL!

I always just use some of that 3/4inch carpet underlay, the stuff made from random cotton / wool remenants. Its cheap, cuts down noise, easy to fit.

If you don't want to fork out the $$ for dynamat, supercheap sells movers blankets that are made of that "multi-coloured under lay stuff". Think they're about $15-20 each and one blanket would be enough to do under the carpet of a Mini - or get two if you want to double up and have some left for behind the dash, in the door pockets etc.

I found the same stuff in Bunnings and doubled it up. Bunnings also sell spray Contact adhesive which works a treat. I know Ive just used 3 cans in my car.

DONT put it under the foot pedal area! Under clutch/brake because the tolerance is so small that the felt WILL affect your clutch engagement.

EDIT -> Sorry forgot to say - Yes Dynamat would be my choice... there are several thicknesses FYI and some are more soundproof than others but they all weigh a lot more than the felt and stuff obviously.

There used to be an article on one of the mini club sites which spoke about this. Mainly to avoid underlays and use the paint on rubber adhesive/paint under the carpet. It doesn't absorb water and minimises rust.
I can't believe Minis leak!!

Cheers
