I have an Aldon modded 45D with electronic ignition. I have read in the handbook about adding a few drops of oil into the dizzy to lube the weights. Do I need to do this on this dizzy? In the pic below where should I add oil, I can just see the weights thru the opening near the top. ![]() |

The usual incantation from Mr Lucas was to add a few drops of oil onto the end of the shaft, under the rotor. Dizzys used to have a bit of felt in there. Oil runs down the shaft, lubes it and (perhaps) gets flung out onto the weights. With Pulsar dizzys I take apart, pull the weights, off then grease their pivot pins with Castrol HMP grease.. as they had originally. |

I might add that your Dizzy is actually a 43D4. A 45D4 would have Vacuum Advance. |

It looks like it used to have vacuum advance as there is a cover plate screwed over the opening where vac advance would be (added by Aldon i presume) How do I ID it to be sure? Now thinking about it I could probably access and oil the weights if I removed that plate. So should I try and oil them or just leave it alone. When I turn against the rotor I can feel them operating freely. Cheers |

Usually the Lucas body has 43D or 45D stamped on the side when built. |
