Plain green antifreeze as used in Fords will do fine, I use the Nulon concentrate, mix it 33%.
Don't buy the premixed stuff, it is often lollywater (more colouring than glycol).

With the Minisport Alloy heads, is it preferable to run the corrosion inhibitor instead of plain anti-feeze ? I have no experience with these heads, and don't want to send it to an early grave. |

In my Rover V8 all alloy engines I use Nulon Ultra Cool (no gycol) mixed with distilled water and Redline Water Wetter. Change annually. |

About a third of the way down the page: http://www.redlineoil.com.au/product-information.asp Another good coolant is Valvoline Zerex G05 http://www.valvoline.com/products/brand ... ifreeze/42 It's approved by MB for use in alloy head engines. Not all auto parts stores sell it but I can buy it here at Motormate and (I think) Autobarn. As slide says, best to change annually - no point having whizzbang coolant if it is full of scale and other crap. |

Thanks for the replies guys. Comments made make interesting reading. Have saved the URL's I believe a good quality, 'okay with alloy' coolant should be sufficient to use with my alloy head. |

I would just watch some of the coolants recommended for `all alloy' modern engines. They have pretty much no other metals in the system, their block is alloy and the radiator too. Their coolants are formulated for this. OTOH a Mini fitted with an alloy head also has cast iron (the block) and copper alloy (the radiator). IMO for this you are safer with good old ethylene glycol concentrate (25-33%) + the balance water (= green coolant).  Change every 2 years or sooner.

But not forgetting the block, I bought Ford stuff before and it's been okay so far. IMO the additive didn't seem worth it. Are there any opinions for special considerations to be made for copper head geaskets ? |
