Has anyone got any pictures of the 1100 engine/gearbox layout? I'm curious to see how they did it. I've always thought the 1100/s was a FF Car...

Mr Kerr, this is one for you i'm thinking. :)

it's identical to a mini one cushy - looks exzachary the same but has some extra engine mounts on the motors front plate behind the timing gears

how'd you get the idea it wasn't ff ?

Do you mean the gearbox as fitted to MG1100s and stuff like that
Here is a an MG 1100 type gearbox on ebay at the moment just don't look at the price
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1256&item=7974499106&rd=1
Also a 998 one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1256&item=7974501329&rd=1
and an 803 one:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=1256&item=7974501743&rd=1

but apparently Datsum 1200 gearboxes will fit behind the inline A series.

This is why Datsun 1200 5 speed gearboxes are rare cause they were rare to start with and they also can go on the back of some of the MGs etc. 1200 4 speed gearboxes are a dime a dozen though.

Also the Datsun gearbox is rumored to be stronger than the MG etc item

Little brother got his 1200 5spd box not long ago

Oh if you are still interested Um, dellow automotive make a bell housing to put a celica 5 spd box behind a 1200 engine so they may make something similar for the MGs

hmmm, that is a good one - actually says Front, transverse and RWD... methinks they're somewhat confused, it's definitely FWD

I was thinking about modding my honda to do that, it's got a driveshaft kind of thing that runs across the back of the motor, which acts as an extension to the left hand driveshaft. I thought maybe I could put an electronic clutch in there, effectively disabling the front drive - whaddayareckon?

carfolio is really good for looking up options and details - at least as a starting point

nah fuzzy, not one of those..... they are a baulk ring synchro 'box as fitted to the MG Midget/AH Sprite MK2 (spridget) and later morris minors in UK. My Dad has one of those in one of his minor convertibles behind a 1275, and one of the Datsun 1200 ones behind a 1330 in his minor sedan ;)

Yer I though Cushy must have meant an inline engine because a transverse gearbox is basicly just like a mini gearbox right

I was writing my post before he posted the link I think   :)
