This is what I did!!
a period radio, but retrofitted, with an AM FM and Aux input
and the rear speakers I have fitted into the back parcel shelf but coloured to blend in, and fitted new BMC badges to make it look BMC'ish

well, we did it. we have bought a restored mini K from Sydney so we are back in the Mini world. very excited. she goes to Mini and Moke world this week to get rear seat belts and a car seat anchor point fitted (sorry, but we have a 15 month old and need to strap in the baby seat). then she goes on a truck from Sydney to Mackay - Central QLD. then the final step - and will ask for your advice on this one - she has no sounds.... is there a way to put a cd/radio in without completly stuffing her with holes for the radio and speakers? super super happy to be back in the mini world!!! I love listening to the beautiful harmony of sound (noises) my mini makes. No need for a stereo.... |

Yes I have fitted a radio by hanging it from under the dash and the speakers can be fitted into a speaker board fitted under the front of the rear seat And congratulations on your new purchase Have you seen the car in person as yet? |

Ditto. Mine had a 200weardrum breaker in it when I got it and I promptly removed it. I am lamenting the fact that someone cut the parcel shelf to fit in 6x9's.. |

I made small boxes for the speakers covered with black speaker box material that simply sat on the carpet under the front seats. |

My solution. http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=65186&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=diamond+dot&start=0 Although you may still have to drill a couple of holes to mount the radio but I don't really think thats such a big deal esp. if you go for a period radio. Other option is under the seat utilising the seat mounts and a bracket. Others have used hidden amps and you plug in an iPod. Also if you look in my post above you will see a suitcase stereo which is a very clever solution. If you want to not drill holes then you need to think of how you can use existing holes and bolts and make up brackets. The speaker boxes on the floor work well and if fitted with a plug they can be removed. I recently replaced the 4in speakers with 5in in they sound way bettter. I would look thru the Audio Section there are heaps of ideas in there.

thanks so much guys. have not seen her in person yet but the photos look great and have been speaking with Mini and moke world in Sydney who have done most of the work on her. they have said she is a cracking little car. great ideas for the radio - love the false fronted one that hides a CD player. will post photos when we get her. thanks Deb

thanks all. so the next question. as we live in a regional area, my hubby wants to do any servicing on her. so, what Haynes manual would I buy? I can't see one specifically on the K model so do we just buy the standard 1960's manual? thanks Deb

It's quite a good manual esp for the home mechanic and lots of people use it.
