Post subject:  Brake lights / sender unit
my brake lights arent working again. The last two times the problem was my sender unit (located beneath my master cylinders plumbed into my brake line with two electrical connectors coming off it) and im suspecting it again. Last time this was changed was about 12 months ago......

are these prone to blocking up or being faulty.?

YES! . . Even new ones may only last a few months. I put a generic electronic switch on the pedal box and no more problems.

Make sure it goes pn the brake pedal as when I was inder the dash upside down I did a perfect job of attaching it to the clutch pedal :oops:

Post subject:  Hydraulic Stop light switch
There are many brake light switches on Old Minis still around these days and most of them are well over 40 years old, so I would not say they are prone to playing up. How often do you flush you brake fluid in the system ? I can not remember changing more than two in the 40 years plus I have worked on Mini electrics.

Old ones maybe OK but beware of NEW ones -quality is crap. I have replaced two within 12 months before fitting electrical ones. But what would I know.

Lol Dave that was solid . Good idea on the pedal switch.

Recently I've done a full fluid change on both cylinders but I'd say the damage had been done.

Looks like I'll be heading out for a new sender one last time then. Might blast some compressed air up the old one & See what happens.

Tony, I dunno who makes these now but it sure ain't Lockheed like the originals.
I got 3 weeks from one and 3 months from another, then said bugger it and fitted a Clubby switch to the pedal.
Safer too- the light comes on before the anchors are fully out.

Karcraft carries the Clubby switch, you just need to make an angle bracket to mount it to the pedal box.

Here's what the switch bracket (inside the box) looks like-

Yeh Karcraft has both. They mentioned checking the wiring for fault but seems like this is common accoss the board.

From the pic & the switch is mounted in front of the pedal & activates once pedal is depressed & contact with switch is lost.

Will a small angle bracket say 20 x 20 x 30 mm long suffice?

Will my wiring from the hydraulic switch Connect straight up?

Yes and yes, you just need to lengthen the 2 wires.
The Clubby plastic switch is a normally closed (NC) type.

OK for anybody needing one, according to the MM forum there apparently is a replacement hydraulic switch that fits a Mini and works.
It's an ACCEL 181101, used on Harleys.

Here's a pic and US pricing but I dunno if Amazon ships to here.
