I have been reading about the 7 port head with twin webers for around $2000.00
Are these heads worth it on a 1275 motor?
Haven't seen a lot of feedback on the ones a few members bought a while ago.
Am interested in purchasing one but would like to know if anyone is using one in there daily driver and are they reliable and fun.

Mines been going since Jan no prob!

Fun? Yes! Have you read the above thread?
Good power with small cam = great flexibility!
Great road motor in my opinion.

2 k is a waste for a small HP gain, buy a blower or a turbo

*sticks head out of cave*

Don't get me wrong I think $2000 for a 7 port with the carbs is a great deal. It looks the beez neez and will give you some good hp gain. But to be honest equally high hp can be achieved with a 5 port head with massive change from $2000...

If it were me and I wanted HP bang for buck, I'd (properly) port a 5 port and expect 100 to 120bhp.

If it were me and I definately wanted a crossflow head, it'd have to be the Elder head (superior in many ways) and I'd want 140bhp+ from my investment

If it were me and money was no issue, I'd stroke, turbo and inject into a crossflow, but that's another story for another day!

*retires to cave*

Spend the $2000 on the bottom end and keep the five port as the restrictor to make the bottom end last forever.

Hold on, yes 5 port can be made to make good power but a 7 port can be made to make more power, both low down and top end and with the drivability to match. If done right it can be an absolute ripping motor.

If I had the $ to throw at a 7 port I would in a heartbeat - yes it would be an injected turbo 7 port but nevertheless - I would rather spend 2k on a 7 port than 2k porting a 5 port...

To be honest, where is the $2k coming from?? a 7 port bare would be around $3k plus the ancillaries for it (webbers, exhaust manifolds, etc etc) so I would say to get a 7 port on and on the road you are looking at no change from $5k

Which 7 port are we talking about complete for $2k ???

Peter

The one that SuperCooper linked. I think it was something like $2200 delivered with 2 40mm weber carbs all assembled etc. Spent $300 cleaning up the ports and surfacing etc and bolted it on. Goes like a rocket and dad's happy.

Will have the car on the track in another month to see how many seconds off his times dad will get, having only changed the cylinder head from a standard 5port with 1 1/2 su's

If your happy to spend the money then sure, go for it. There are other ways of getting power, possibly cheaper and what not. But it's all about what you want.

Chong - I know - and agree - but not quite that much cheaper. Porting the head WELL then k-line, cutting seats, valves, etc - change from $2k? You are looking at minimum $1300

I couldnt see the link in the post... maybe I am going crazy lol F@%#$@%#$% ok all good - I am still learning how to read hahaha. Seriously, I think I went 'link blind' for a minute!

Ok, ive had time to actually use my eyes now.
Ill stop commenting - personally, while I love 7 port heads (8 port even more) I would be saving a little more and going injected 7 or 8 port but of a different type. Elder being my preferred choice.

I was questioning the $2k comment - now I remember the thread and details - its not really $2k - its $2k plus the rest on porting, cleaning up etc.

Still a 7 port though.

Am talking about the 7 port package with the twin webers.
Would have to go better than a standard 12G940 head and I'm sure the webers would sound pretty chunky with a RE13 cam or similar.
I was chasing good power, road drivable but also that lumpy erratic idle sound.
Don't really want to modify the engine bay too much.

I paid 1100 for the assembled head, 300 for a pair of 2nd hand dellortos. I don't think you need to get it ported as well. Bolt it on, Use it as is and see if your happy. You can always modify later when $$ or want permit.

What are the specs of the motor it's going on?

much prefer to have the engine flowing power more efficiently and easily than ramming it through a ported 5 port.
will be saving for a 7 port in the future for sure.
