Tomorrow I will be attempting to fix my fuel gauge and odometer.

The fuel gauge reads opposite to what's actually there, I swapped the wires on the side of the tank, but that didn't work. Will I have to take the info sender thing in the tank out and adjust?

The odometer doesn't work, except for the fractions of a mile.
Is this easily fixed with a few adjustments, or is the gauge stuffed?

The speedo cable rattles around at 30 MPH, at a certain throtle position.
Will this be easily rectified?

I've looked through a few service books, but have found most useless for these sort of
problems. Any thoughts?

Hi Harley,
1. Your fuel guage problem is most likely the float in the tank.
I had the same defect last week where the tank was full
and indicator was reading empty. There was a hole in the plastic float.
I plugged the hole with fibreglass resin(after getting ful out of float) now O.K.

2. Digits not working. The digits have probably moved away from each other on
the shaft there mounted on.Try moving digits closer to each other.

3. As for the speedo needle, try squirting a small bit of oil down the speedo cable,
it may be binding

Best thing with the cable is pull the inner core out, wipe it clean, then put a smear of grease on it. Leave the top 100mm or so dry- you don't want it getting into the speedo head....!
BTW I've found many new speedo cables are bone dry when you get them..
If none of your gauges are working check you are getting 10V from the Voltage stabiliser can on back of the speedo. Often these old things fail and you get 0V or 12V+.
If it's toasted, PM wombat, he can sell you a new electronic one, cheap.

I pulled the spedo apart today and put back together. Some of the little plastic gears in the odometer have broken up, and the wheels aren't in crash hot condition either.
Re greased the speedo cable, but haven'd done anything with the fuel gauge yet.
Theanks for the help.
