what do you guys reccomend for battery. i drive my mini once a month and find the battery always die's. Am I better off buying a deep cycle battery or stick to conventional.. Are there batteries made for cars that sit in the garage for long period of time?? |

AGM (absorbed glass matt) are low discharge and work well in this situation. The downside is you may not get massive cold cranking amps in that style of battery. I have an AGM battery in my motorbike and it works well with little use. I've also heard good things about Optima's but never tried one. |

Buy the biggest CCA battery you can fit into your battery box. I have a 550CCA Bosch from supercheap. I drove my car 7 or 8 times in total since Oct last year, no battery problems. |

Like Lillee i have big cca batteries, the reserve capacity is important too, bigger is better. Lead acid batteries hate going dead flat, they won't come back to 100% of how they were before going flat. Test the car for static current draw, should be less than 0.05A. Otherwise, for any car that sits for a long time i strongly reccomend a good quality maintenance charger that cuts out once the battery is at float volts. C-tec is very good, the one below won't be very good to charge a flat battery (only 800mA) but it will keep a good battery alive and well. 
I have one like this, 3600mA and a couple more functions.

I bought an Optima red top recently and the doco with it is a bit vague about whether a normal trickle charger is safe to use. In the end I replaced the one I had with a Ctek 800. |

I had an Optima Yellow Top in various cars & ended out doing duty in the mini. It died after 7 years, so pretty happy with that. Not cheap to replace though. You should only use a charger suitable for AGM batteries if you want them to last. |

Exide " EX56D " $ 168.00 from Big W , 550cca ( cold cranking amps ) , plenty big enough , I have three of them , i run one in my mini , my Turbo Diesel Rodeo and an XR 6 Falcon. They fit in the mini just right and i can swap them from each car if need be. |

Red Optima. My cars are lazy good fernuttin' layabouts. I need something that will hold a charge over an extended period while the cars lounge about in the garage doin' f'all. Oh, and I have the cTek charger. Good fer me Ducati's as well. |

nice nice and nice.. turned out a great thread.. i got a preice on optima RED top for $280 today.. thinking i might go down that path.. then again i can get a really good deal on bosch batteries.. missus works for siemens whom own bosch.... hmmmm decisions decisions.. |

hey snail... have you got a 7 port head on yours??? I may be wrong but I thought you were on another thread talking about installing a 7 port head. How did it go and whats the power like? |
