I know there has been a lot of discussion previously on here as to whether this model ever existed, I think those rumours were finally put to rest in an article in TME a while back and I remember reading the modern motor road test 'bl's better bricks' that 'only the ecnonmy model 1100 retains the central speedo arrangement' or something along those lines, but had always been puzzled about this having never seen a clubby with a magic wand and centre speedo.

Anyway, we had a new member turn up at our general meeting last night with a very tidy 'Mini 1100'. (apologies for my lousy photos!)

Inside, there is a steering column lock instead of the ignition switch in the centre, but also there is a manual push pump for the washers in the centre switch panel. The magic wand and central speedo are there, and what looks to be original rubber mats under the carpets.

It is apparently a 1972 model and Kevin Thomas suggested that it may be an ex-PMG (telecom) fleet mini. It also has an internal bonnet release which looks like a factory install - maybe a PMG fleet pack option?

Either way, it is an exremely tidy and very rare example of this base-spec early clubman model and the first one I've actually seen in the flesh.

Great to have a new member with a really nice and unique car join us. :D

Dont know how it got to be in SA but its in the colours of the Sydney County Council (electricity company) in NSW - They had fleets of minis made as poverty pack both clubbies and round noses depending on the models available at the time.

Nice original car. My ex-wife had a slightly earlier roundnose and i have had a SCC clubby come through my hands a few years back.

I agree with Mike, it is the Sydney County Council corporate colours.

I wonder if this is the same one that was on carsales late last year? Looks exactly the same. If it is then i think they got a good buy.

It was on gumtree (sa) for a long time too..

always puzzled me the magic wand and clubby...

there's some funny 'company' cars out there...

my Morris Minor's build plate and numbers suggest it was Harbour Grey,

after hand stripping to bare metal - there is no way it was ever that colour... it was a green very similar to this clubby... my old man always reckoned it was a water company car in SA...

Definately a 72' Model. My van has the identical centre speedo, magic wand setup. What a fantastic looking clubman!

Nice looking unit.
Don't know if it's my computer, a bad angle or I'm just tied, but I can't see the brake pedal in the floor picture.

Is it just me?

Alex.

I reckon it's just you; to my eyes, it appears the clutch pedal is obscured by the steering wheel rim. (If you look really closely you can just see a corner of it peeping out.)

Your right, I can just see it now.
I must go and sleep!
