Post subject:  Heater valve help

Hi all,

I was hoping to get a bit of an idea of what is on the inside of the heater valves?
Mine was pretty much all frozen up, so I pulled it apart and tried to clear it.
A lot of crap came out, I can see a spring, but what else? The pin is tapered so I tjought there may supposed to be something else, an o-ring perhaps.

Any help would be great
Thanks[/img]

I managed to pull one apart ages ago the bronze shaft has an o-ring on it. The shaft is held in by a clip that to remove you have to look down one of the tubes to see it and stick something in to remove it.

I tried to get some o-rings but they didnt have the exact size i needed and the ones that were too big i kept breaking them.

I was ages ago i pulled it apart so that is from memory.

let me know how you go

It looks like I can get a replacement from ebay for around $80 - I live in Central Queensland and wouldn't really use the "heater" part of the heater, but not sure how else to bypass the valve.

Anyone tried fitting anything else? Cable operated universal?

You can do this:

Or you can just pull the tap off (as you have done) and plum the pipe straight back up to the heater matrix, so there is water going through it all the time. This is what lots of people do. This is how my daily GT is

Or you can buy a new tap, but they are not exactly cheap.

Thanks for the advice, and the link.

I will have to have a bit more of a play around and see what I think will be the best option, Don't think i will shell out for a new one, maybe just go for an alternative or plumb without any at all.
