I can't read the id tag... I think it says;

Type. Ykg2s2
Car no. 4594
Engine no. 9f/sa/y

Is this a cooper?

Cheers fellas

Dave

It looks like a genuine S to me. The fluff under the roof is a big clue. The ID plate is a Cooper S plate and the numbers are Cooper S numbers.

As usual I would recommend getting someone that knows the "S" to look at the car in the flesh before passing over any money.

I was thinking the same thing... I think it's so far away though...

We'll see...

not enough details too tell originality - it looks right, but it's interesting for a MK1 how many MK2 features it has. Mk1's were only produced for the first 3 months of '69, so obviously it's in there. What was the last MK1 number again?

About a thousand after that one.
My guess is the ebay one August/September 68. A lot of things on it have been changed or replaced by the look of it.

That's the one!

So it's a mark 1 with lots of mark 2 bits and in need of a resto...

Sounds expensive for what it is?

Yeah theres definately something wrong with it. Whats with the blue paint on the dash rails? And you can see paint overspray on and around the id plate so at somepoint it could have been bogged up and quickly resprayed??

Um, irrespective of whether it's a genuine Cooper or not, check out the size of those weights in the background!!!!

Seeing that the lovely blue on the shell matches those weights, it must be a genuine item :? :? :? :?

Must be a behemoth selling the car 'cos she/he don't fit no more after the steroid diet.

Doesn,t appear to be anything odd with the seller , bought a rocker cover in 08 , some Cooper S badges in 07 , sold two sets of twin carbs in 09

It would seem that they are moving and he/she/they made one shell from two , I don,t have a problem with that as long as people don,t try to cover it with paint or don,t put it in the description

The worst example for mine was the "Peter Manton 850 " from 2 odd years ago , 850 shell in primer ,late 998 motor , Peter Manton manifold and twin 1/4inch SU,s , a few other random things , listed at $13,500 , in the Seller,s history was all the bits he,d bought over the last eight months to put it together , pulled from Ebay after 4 days

Anyway back to the Cooper S Mark 1 & 2

.

Look very carefully at this one before buying. My question is why is the paint on the dash rail in blue (possibly indigo or even baltic blue) yet the plate says Lake Green which is dark green with a brown undertone. As always let the buyer beware. The engine number has also been re-stamped, the "a" is usually lower case, and the wiring loom is from a MK2, carpet visible in the interior up under the dash that nobody ever seems to remove is Mk2 type, amongst a stack of other things. Too early to have any Mk2 stuff on it. My question would be where did it all come from.. Just look closely before you hand over your dough, and for a car in that sort of nic thats big money....

I was always under the impression the Lake Green/Snow White Mk 1 colour scheme came with a doeskin interior, not black. I could be wrong though.

That was the colour scheme of my first S, before my first girlfriend took it for a drive and wrapped it around a stobie pole :? :( :x
