A neighbour around the corner is an airline steward and on is day off in Thailand he used to hunt around for car parts. He found an old warehouse that was full of NOS Holden parts. It was all leftover parts from the 60's and 70's and there was no order to what was there, just boxes and boxes on racks - original packaging with part numbers.

For a couple of dollars he was allowed to wander around and pick out what he wanted. Over a few years he brought back suit cases full of parts that were sold to collectors. I bought several HK Monaro items. A great little sideline business until one of his clients found the location and went over with a number of shipping containers and cleaned the whole place out.

He then changed to looking for other distributors and found similar warehouses for Valiants and Datsuns.

Didn't the proprietor of Newport Motors here in Adelaide uncover a stash of NOS Cooper S part in New Guinea some years ago.

Then there's the Indian Rover SD1 find - a whole factory laid dormant for 20 years in Madras full of new SD1 body shells and just about every other part that Standard Motor Co. had used to make the Indian SD1 following Austin Rover's transfer of production and tooling to the Indian subcontinent in 1987 after it ceased in the UK.

Rimmer Brothers shipped back multi container loads of these parts to the UK and is now selling them.

I think the best thing about the Indian SD1 was the motor that they used.

There was also a batch of CKD Austin Maestros going to be sent to Bulgaria or somewhere like that didn't get sent and they sat around the Cowley plant until someone took them off their hands are assembled them in RHD.

I believe that a similar thing happened in Australia with a batch of Australian CKD Minis.
