Hi can any one help me out with a pic of exactly where my leads are supposed to go from the dizzy to the plugs on a 998? just want to make sure they're in the right order :S

#1 lead is usually at about 1 or 2 o'clock on the dizzy cap.
They are numbered 1-3-4-2 going ANTI-clockwise.

if thats the case then mine are way out but it used to run fine and now it doesnt :S i havent changed the order of them either

Well the dizzy driveshaft may be installed 180° out, this is common as the worknshop manual is confusing on this point.
If the leads are all 180° from what I said and it runs, leave it be.. it ain't broke.

just had a better look at it, you are right it's been done 180 out haha. explains why my leads don't reach numnber one spark plug properly. thank you for all your help

If it ran fine and nothing has changed (in regards to lead order anyway) why were you cancerned about the order

I did too and stuck it on the garage wall !

i am going to change the leads and incase i lost track of the order i wanted to be sure i could put them back again. for some reason recently it's just gotten running very rough that's all and one of my leads is buggered

Ahh I see, easy way to do this so you don't make a mistake is to change one at a time.

Doc's advice is good - *if* the dizzie is installed as per factory instructions...

However, to be absolutely sure. Set the engine with No1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke (important as TDC occurs twice per cycle).

Where ever the rotor arm is pointing IS No 1. Count off the others asa previously advised.....

thanks for the advice guys much appreciated. after a lot more time working on it it's definately out by 180 but im not worried about it as that's not the problem so i gotta keep digging
