Post subject:  Wiring up Clubby 3 gauge cluster (with pic)

Hi All,

Picking up this cluster shortly off a friendly ausmini member and would just like to heads up on how to wire up the tacho.

Im changing from a 2 gauge (71 Clubby) to this one.

I have attached a pic below and would just like to know what the tacho wires need to connect to. I dont seem to have anything in my loom so will have to do it separately. Are the wires original or home jobby? (there is a homemade fix visible (red wire) but everything is working but tacho wasnt connected)

Thanks

Upon further inspection, I actually have 2 white wire2 with male and female bullet connectors plugged together in my loom behind where the dash would sit. As I understand, these are the wires to be used with one connected to the ignition and one to the + side of the coil.

The wires on the back of the gauge above are confusing me a little though, do I simply remove them and plug the white wires in or is there a step Im missing?

Gauge is on its way so just setting up my wiring in advance as Im putting a new dash in

Thanks

as far as i know, there were 2 types of factory tripple guage system used regarding the taco wires

one had one wire to feed to the -tive terminal of the coil

& the other used a "loop" system with 2 wires through to the neg-tive terminal of the coil

so,,, your`s """Looks/seems""" to be the one wire type to me

sorry i`m not much help, but if there were 2 "bullet" type terminals avaliable & vacant on the back of that taco instead of the one "spade" type (plus the earth) then i`d say yours was the 2 wire type one

:-)

that`s all i got today , sorry

OK well that might actually make it easier as I have an aftermarket tacho already wired up which will be replaced with this cluster.

I will try my existing -ve coil wire first and see how i go

UPDATE: 02/12/11
Figured out the wiring. Dont know if what is hooked up is correct or not but i disconnected the wirring going into the tacho and did my own investigations. Also, there is a wire missing from the back of the tacho that is located above the brown wire, I had to open the tacho up and re run something new.

Anyway. Black is ground, Brown is to -ve end of coil, missing wire is to ignition.

Hope it helps someone else in this predicament
