never done it before and mine snapped off just above the knuckle joint !

easy? hard?? any hints or tips on what to look out for please?

I have a sinle SU carby that will have to come off first and have ordered the gaskets for the carby and manifold

is it as simple as remove carby, remove manifold, clean and replace gaskets and reinstall??

any advice would me most appreciated

Easy enough to change as the other guys have said, but you might want to look in to why it broke in the first place and fix that too. Could be engine steadies and / or engine mounts or could be something else.

thanks for that, most appreciated

I did wonder whether my driveway mishap had shunted something so will check out the mounts while under there

fingers crossed the bits arrive today from Mini King as it's quiet at work and I can do it there out of the rain

cheers

The jolt when the car hit the gutter was probably enough to crack the manifold.

Make sure the engine pipe fits onto the manifold properly and that it has a bracket from the pipe to the gearbox/diff housing.

Like GT said, check the engine mounts and steadies.

I'm still waiting on the parts to arrive from Mini King - was hoping they'd get here today, but hopefully tomorrow as I'm off work Friday and the Mini is stuck in the storeroom at work !

the engine mounts seem all ok - the bracket that goes from the back of the gear box seems slightly out of line with the exhaust hook that bolts thru it tho

I've asked for a new clamp too from John to join the manifold to the exhaust

have also notice the holder at the very back of the exhaust is on it's last legs (the rubber bobbin seems fine, just the twisted clamp thing at the very end of the car) anyone got a spare to sell?

If you haven't pulled it apart yet do not disconnect the cables from the carbie. (maybe just disconnect the fuel line if it's to short) but you'll want to unbolt the inlet manifold off the head and simply wrap a few rags around it so it wont scratch the car then simply hang it off to the side while you work on the exhaust manifold.

Why do you say that?

Acc cables and such aren't that hard to put back on - are they?

It depends on the operator. If the accelerator cable is frayed on the end it can be a mongrel to refit back in the hole.

You have to undo the carby off the manifold at some stage when replacing the manifold so you might as well do it early and it saves undoing the cables.

If I have to take a carby off the cable I usually pull the split pin out of the cable clamp/bolt/thing and leave it on the cable.

parts arrived from Mini King this morning round 8.30

we we're pulling the bits off by 9 and had it back up and running round 12 - not bad for a pair of people supposed to be printing at work!

we left the carby cables connected and the only dram was a stud that had lost it's thread - quick trip to see Greame Lord in Fairy Meadow and he re bored it for us and with a fresh nut gratis and we we're done

I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow and retighten the bolts to be sure

Thanks to Grame Lord for the bolt and thank you for the cheap manifold and bits John at Mini King too
