Advice/help needed (North Melbourne):

Parked up the Min in a mates shed a year ago while we built our new house. Left one set of keys with him and kept the other set myself.

Idea was one of us would be able to find them a year later...

So whats the best way to get into the car?

I can think of a few ways, but don't want to put them in a public place.

I suggest you find the keys.

If you don't want to do any damage, you could always call a locksmith...

If the window is open, you can usually reach in and unlock it.

There are a couple of ways - mini are not terribly secure.

If its a roundy, then find somebody who has a a heap of parts and hopefully a number of keys. After 40 odd years the locks are pretty worn and from a handful of keys you usually find one that works. Once you are in its easy to hot wire and start it although f the key opens the door it will also work in the ignition.

Clubbies are bit different as they have a different keys for the door and ignition.

A bit of wire through the quarter window and some jiggling will open it and make it easier to unlock it for both clubbies and roundies.

I am not giving info for prospective car thieves - they already know all this.

on some you dont need any tools.
have used the dipstick once.

minis and all old cars are piss easy to break into and steal. You must have an immobiliser/(paging) alarm/gps tracker to have any chance of securing them.

Try this trick, no tools needed, works on most minis. PM sent.

smash the rear window,(not the windscreen the rear flip-out window) they are dime a dozen. easy to replace

Try one of the old Mini parts & repair places- eg Link Automotive. They might have a key collection.
I know that John Smidt at Mini King does, I used his once!

We have a pile of keys here that we could try and unlock it with.

Take the locking strip out and pop the window out!

Or just call a locksmith

Pop the quarter vent open, reach in and unlock it.

Sorry folks I should have said, it's a UK mini and the door handles (and locks) are new!

I think taking the rear window out is a good idea; may be the way to go as there won't be any damage?
