Post subject:  Opinions on Prospective Purchase........

Guys and Gals, went to look at a "project" today with a mate who is looking to get into mini's....... he has plenty of time and patience, and has a mechanical background...... the shell is disassembled, has everything in boxes, has a disaasembled 1100 motor, as well as a spare engine (condition unknown)........ the car did not have e manufacturers plate but has the body # (021A2S214104928)....... I think looking at it that it would be a 74-76 model :? .

The owner is asking $570.00 for it.

Have a look at the pics below, the first few pics show the rust around the car, we need to know about the process involved in removal of it and whether it is an expensive process if it needs to be outsourced....... and is it worth the money????

That rust is pretty advanced, would it have affected the chassis?

$570 is not a bad price, but take into account you guys will probably have to organise some method of moving it back to its new home. it looks like it has been sitting outside for quite a while, so putting the wheels on and rolling it may not be a good option. not

on the other hand, $570 to save a mini from certain doom??? tis a small price to pay

$570 would be a reasonable price for a project car with less rust that is still all in one piece and running here in Adelaide [where everthing costs more]

The rust is going to cost big time if you need to outsource the work.

Then add the no plates issue. It looks like another Hairy Lime, and that colour only came out in 75. ADRs and plates were issued then, so if this shell doesn't have one, you really have to start asking "why?" [read: start running! or at least do a background check on it]

Tell him he's dreaming [the vendor not your mate] without papers that is not worth it offer him 50 but be prepared to haggle all the way to 57

[Added] - On second thoughts without that ID plate it is just not going to be able to be registered anywhere in Oz so unless it is destined for the track then it is really not even worth the 50 - go looking for one that will be able to be driven on the road when your finished

$570 is overpriced!

J_A_M cost me $500...running, complete, just out of rego, 2 PO's and a rusty boot floor only. (AND IN SYDNEY!)

That rust looks NaStY and the floors look paper thin.

I say No, don't do it at that price.

I reckon if your mate can wait a bit he will find a bargain somewhere (That was my problem I just couldn't wait and therefore probably paid more than I should have on one of my minis  )

As far as price goes I reckon leave it even if it was OK with the id plates the rust looks bad and looks to be in a not so convientent place. It's a clubby right?they should be cheaper than that i reckon. My roundnose came in a condition whilst not pretty it was running and complete (just about) and I could have registered it with very ittle work and it cost me $600.

keep an eye out and I reckon you will grab a bargain somewhere
my 2c
