hey guys i need some help , my mini started shitting itself after a good 7 months , im new to the mini scene and dont know what to do , Had a look under the bonnet and saw sparks coming from the distributor cap that connect the leeds to the engine , water might might of got in ! would that be the reason why ??? help anyone |

Yes. The sparks are jumping because of the combination of water and grime (and possibly worn out plugs and tired plug leads) Clean the plug leads and dry them. (only do one at a time so you don't mix them up) Clean the dizzy cap and dry it. Clean the top of the coil. You want it all clean enough to eat off! Any grime will allow the sparks to jump |

I would measure the resistance of the plug leads. Good suppression ones when new are around 1.5-2K ohm, I bin any that are 5K or more. I have measured many old ones where the resistance was infinite on my meter, this is not surprising- as cheap ones are just carbon impregnated string in the middle (not wire). OK when new but many die in 4 or 5 years. |
