My moke needs new rubber. I believe they came with 175 wide 13 inch diameter tyres with some older size classification that is equivalent to about 82 profile, is that correct?? Mine currently has 185 60 13 and they seem like a fairly good size but are a little smaller in overall diameter. They are A032Rs and as sticky as anything. I want the moke to be more road friendly and less tram-line prone, drone less, aquaplane less and throw less stones at my head! What size and make/model of tyres do moke owners suggest?? M |

It's probably best to work out what you want to do with your gearing first and select the tyre size you want from that. There is a calculator I can send you to plug in different diff ratios and tyre sizes to see waht revs the car will turn at 100kph. For example if you have a 3.76 diff now and go to a 185/70R13 tyre it will cruise nicely but acceleration will suffer. Just about any 13" tyre fits on a Moke, so you have plenty of choice of size and brand. There is a billion Hyundai's, Festivas, Barinas, Swifts etc out there still running 13" tyres, mostly 175/70R13 so most tyre places have good stocks and specials from time to time. Some guys run Mud and Snow type tyres for the off-road look, but it's far from necessary on a road-going Moke. For the record, I run 185/60R13 on mine too, but that was to get the gearing I wanted with the Autobox. Cheers, Brett. |

As Harley stated on the other thread. The profile changes in relation to the width of the tyre to retain the same rolling radius. Therefore no affect on speedo reading or gearing etc etc. "Yep, get the proper tyre size for a mini, either: 175/50/13 195/45/13 215/40/13" |

People, it's a big wheeler Moke. Mini tyre sizes are not really relevant as you can run much larger rubber on a big-wheeler. Anything from 175/50R13 to 185/70R13 or 205/60R13 will fit. But 175/50R13 on a stock 4.26 diff would give you 4473 rpm at 100kph, which is quite silly! 
The same diff with 185/70 tyres gives 3835 rpm. So you can fiddle the gearing a lot with tyre selection. My eventual plan is to have two sets of rims - one with sticky 185/60R13 for fanging and one set with 175/70 or 185/70 for distance work. Cheers, Brett. |

Thanks guys. The car will be on either 175 70 13 or 185 60 13 as these are close to stock and suit my diff change from 4.33 to 3.76. What is a good all round tyre in that size? Should I just go a Brdgestone? I'm not after R spec this time around. Getting old and sensible. M |

I'm running Yokohama A539 185/60R13 on my Moke. Less sticky than A032R but grip well in wet and dry. I've run Falkens in that size in the past. They didn't grip as well as the Yokies and wore out faster. If you go 175/70R13 there is plenty of choice, but you may find the loss of accelerateion annoying. I have 185/70R14 Yokohama A-Drives on my Corona GT and they come in 175/70R13 size. They were around $100 a tyre and I'm very happy with them too. Not, I don't have shares in Yokohama, I'm just a happy customer.
