I'd say neither. Stick with rubber. Polly bashes are for fantastic at breaking stuff

Use poly bushes if you want more vibes into the car and shorter bush life.
I went back to the stock rubber ones years ago.

At The Mini King BBQ John was promoting the benefits of using rubber ones.

With poly the load is transferred to the mounting points and usually the firewall will develop cracks around the mounting holes (on the passenger side). John suggested using an old pedal assembly and using the top part as a reinforcement under the bolts. I have just welded up a members car where the cracks were major and getting worse (pity it was discovered after the engine bay was painted). We made a steel plate to go inside the car under the bracket bolts.

I've been watching this topic with some interest as i have been having a lot of vibration problem since getting my car back on the road and I am now about to pull the poly bushes out of the engine steady, so if i was you Fiji I would hold off on the fancy poly bushes.

Does this apply to all the bushing points - eg tie rods or just engine steadys

I would stick to rubber for the engine steady. I have fancy purple looking things for the tie bars and the lower arm pivot.

0k,,, here the guts of it

Yes, the "average" poly bushes do produce some more vibe than rubber

However,,, the cracking of the body on the passengers side is not generally "because" of polly bushes,,, it`s more an inherent design problem with all minis fitted with the std issue passengers side steady bar equipment

if you have a look at the "std issue" mini passengers side steady bar bracket arrangement, you will notice that the bracket is pretty tall & there is also a rubber sealing slab fitted under the bracket & there is no re-enforcing of the body in that area at all

so,,, since the dawn of time, this area has "always" produced cracking in the body section under the bracket

so,,, please don`t blame polly bushes for that as it`s quite standard issue mini stuff

OK,,, now ,,, the rubber bushes are fine,,, absolutely nothing wrong with them & yes i love them too,,, they`re the "Nicest" for insulation,,, however, they can be a pain to fit & do "Always" perish & not last very long if oil is anywhere near them,,, so with no oil leaks you`re fine,,, but a fumey engine & they will go very soft & stuff-up in no time,,, which then leads to engine mount & exhaust mount problems & chasing your Ar$sE with engine movement & then exhaust leaks following

The old "Nolathane" (& The Like) type of bushes were sh!t,,, have always been sh!t,,, & will always be Sh!t,,, they are way too hard for starters,,, they go oval inside very quickly ,,,& then "create" engine movement,,, & also in no time fast they disintergrate very bad & break-up into pieces... so basically most of these early designed polly bushes are crap & i`d suggest you stay well away from them

so,,, we here at The Wonderful World of MiniMan have developed a new range of bushes through our friends in China (over the last few years) & have found a lovely compromise in softness & durability/longetivity

our new ones are being sold all over the world through most of your big mini spare parts companys, they`re orange (the very first batch were dark blue) but are a one-piece design,,, easy-fit, & last for ages

soft enough to insulate very well, yet strong enough to last & are also oil resistant so no perishing

so there you have it,,,, if anyone doesn`t believe me about the body cracking under the passengers side engine steady bar bracket even with the rubber bushes fitted then you are wrong

if you remove the rubber sealing slab & fit an extra support plate under the body then fit your top engine steady bracket back ontop,,,, then you have "sandwitched" the body making it tougher 7 way less movement ,,, & it won`t wobble around on the rubber (because the rubber is goooone) & won`t crack ever again
easy-peasy
cheers
Matt
