Hi guys,

I'm replacing the thermostat and waterpump in my engine to get it ready for an upcoming summer.
Just wondering what the 'best' temperature thermostat is to use?
It'll only be used in summer.
It has no heater.
The engine is standard.

Similarly, the engine has no by-pass hose.
Would it be beneficial, in this case, to run a number of small holes in the thermostat itself?

Hi willy, you'll no doubt receive a number of ranging answers on this.

I run the orginal style 4 tube copper radiators, 82 deg thermostat, NO by-pass (it serves no purpose other than to be a pest) and NO holes in the thermostat. When it shuts, you want it shut.

Been running all my cars this way for over 25 years in all climates from the NT to Tassy. NO problems.

I second the 82C thermostat.
I do still use a bypass, but with 1/2" heater hose (a la Cooper S) not that damned Morris Minor concertina one. :x
