Torque for top & bottom is 70ft lb?

I need some new nuts what size and thread? UNF?

If you mean the nut that secures the pin in to the top arm, they are 7/16" UNF and Grade 8 (or better). The Spring Washers are a Meduim Grade (not the Light Grade that most seem to come with these days).

This nut is torqued to 40 ft/lbs.

The Cup Nut that goes over the swivel ball is torqued to 70 ft/lbs.

And make sure you use a good (preferably new) lock washer under the big cup nut.
If they come loose & undo at speed, the results are interesting, but NOT funny (I was a passenger in a M1100 when it happened.. luckily not at high speed).

Get a 1.5" socket, a deep one.

Do yourself a favour and buy the deep impact socket to suit. Makes life so much easier. A worthy investment.

guys, i'm currently in the process of replacing these myself, so thought i'd go down local auto shop snd buy a 1.5'' socket, but couldnt find anywhere?? tried supercheap, auto one and repco, but the biggest I could find was 1''.

any suggestions where to get? and if available in 1/2'' drive?

Go to a proper industrial tool place and not a seat cover/stereo/wiper blade shop.

I am sure that there would be places down there that would have them, try Gasweld at 82-88 Flinders Street Wollongong.

. When I tried asking at gassed a few years ago I just got a blank stare and something similar to "they don't make them in that sizing"

I ended up getting one from minisport or mini spares I forget.

You will find they are all 3/4" drive, but you just stick a 1/2-3/4 adaptor in it.
This deep 1.5" socket has 2 other Mini uses too-
1. Flywheel bolt.
2. Diff pinion nut.

The one I posted the link to is ½" drive.

I used to use a ¾" drive socket on ball joints and it wasn't deep enough, so I ground a hex on the back of it so I could slip it into another socket to get enough depth.

My old `deep' socket is a std 1-1/2" one with a used 5/8" `Dufor' brand (remember them?) socket welded on top.
I've used it since ~1965...
