Ey guys, i'm looking at door mirrors so i can be 100% sure the holes in my doors will line up and noticed that there are two types of glass for them, convex and flat. So what is the difference between the two and what one is better?
Thanks Matt

I have convex glass on both my door mirrors, and I wouldn't be without them. You can see so much more around you than with flat glass, although they do take a little bit of getting used to.

Convex glass is curved, and higher in the middle. It gives a wider range of reflected view, though the image can look distorted or out of perspective.
Some state laws don't let you have anything other than flat glass, which is a load of crap cause all new cars are like that these days and they don't have to change it.

I've got these bullet ones:

Those you're looking at are quite a bit larger, so you'll get excellent visibility around you with convex glass. Do it! :D

Hate to put a dampener on your choice of mirror, but unless it is ADR approved & carries an "E45" [in a circle] approval stamp molded into the housing, iit is not approved for use in Australia. The "45" number signifies ADR Approval...the number being reserved for Australian use only.

Probably no big deal, but in the case of an accident, your Insurance Company could take your "illegal "miror to deny you a payout.

Mirrors [or any Automotive Accessory] made over seas are not all approved for use in Australia unless they have the correct "E45" stamp.

If you have a spare day or so, Google ..Australian Design Rules..Mirrors.

Actually, the ADR's make for interesting reading, not just mirrors.:)

Jeez, quite frankly I wouldn't worry about the rules - these mirrors make the car safer to drive in traffic, and if you use a reputable insurer they're not going to pick nits over your mirrors.

I couldn't care if they're made in Nigeria by Underpants Gnomes, they're better and safer than (approved) China's Finest.

Would probably be a fine product, the gnomes are a big corporation and I'm sure they know what they're doing if they want phase three.

99% of Insurance companies will do their utmost to get out of paying in the event of an accident.

There is no such thing as a "reputable Insurance Company"... the beast just does not exist...they are all in business to make a profit for their Shareholders... the same as Banks.

Sure, whatever you say.

Grosso, you make up your own mind -- I'll bet you have more than one part on your car already which doesn't meet ADRs, so you decide whether it's safe to save a few $$, and don't listen to me or any other nutjobs on the Internet.

I have had lots of Minis over the years with lots of mirrors, I have yet to see one with ADR compliance numbers....

But the last bullet mirror I bought here (after the great hailstorm demolished it) went rusty in 6 weeks after fitment- so much for PRC quality, ADRs or not.

I now use S/S Tex mirrors from UK, they were designed for & have been used on Minis for the last 40 years so they will do me. 8)
