Anyone ever had experiance with using one of these? If so what is your opinion?

Had one in my rover, they're great if you prefer to sit further back and lower than normal. I don't have one in the current car, I like being able to get in and out easier.

I like them. When fitting keep the Steering Colmun Attached to the spline on the rack but loosen off the steering rack U Bolts when your happy with the position lock in the Column and then the U bolts. If you Don't you with Stuff you Steering Rack Cheers |

I used to have one of those but it kind of looked a bit flimsy considering that this is what the column pivots around in a frontal collision. If it snaps instead, then the column and wheel is likely to head straight for your face. Now my face might not be the best looking one around, but its the only one I have, so I upgraded to this one made by one of the blokes on the UK Mk1 forum.

tomkidd on mk1 performance forums was the guy who had them made. It looks like he sold his last one in June. If enough people pester him, he will have another batch made I think. They came powdercoated black or nickel plated, in standard length and longer than standard. 25 quid posted to NL if i recall (it was 2009!) cheers michael |

A bloke on www.theminiforum.co.uk has recently started selling a similar design, in two sizes. First is apparently the same drop as the silver one in your original post, the second drops it a further 30mm. I can't comment on the respective qualities but they are similar in appearance to the Kiddspeed item that mickmini posted, although note the circular vs trapezium cutout on top and the slot cutout for fixing the steering column angle vs the 3 pairs of holes for same. That said, I'm thinking of ordering one. Also makes a harness bar, seat rails, etc if you're into that kind of thing. See JB Fabrication on Facebook for more pics and information.

Looks like there are a few options available. It would be cool if a pressed steel one was available that looked very similar to the original. Hmmm, wonder if there is a way? If I was still toolmaking would have the resources to create something... None the less some of the other examples you guys have posted look pretty good, I will check them out. |

If so what is your opinion? I find if you have the original large steering wheel fitted then the original angle (ie without the above bracket) works well. Once you start to have a small sports steering wheel then the wheel starts to feel too far away. Advantages... * Looks period (they were a period accessory) * There is a range of positions * Relatively easy to fit and/or remove Disadvantages *Looks a little ugly. *Could be argued that the column is slightly more dangerous in an accident. The Mini's more upright steering column angle helped it to bend forward and away from you in an accident rather than spear you through the chest. Just ask Sir Sterling Moss
