Post subject:  Mini Tool kits
Just trying to confirm what was in the mini's tool kits (got a guy trying to sell me a "original spanner set that came with a Cooper S" but I don't believe that they ever came out with this)

so I kinda think....

Mk1 Minis (all) - T shaped pillar jack, Z shaped wheel brace, a spark plug box spanner & tommy bar in a black plastic roll-up tool bag. AND NO spanners etc?

I think that the vans/Travellers came with a different shaped jack but can't exactly remember

would the Mk2 be the same?

Ummm. no I dont think so

Any of the minis I have ever had just came with a plastic sheath thingo that simply contained a T-shaped jack and the Z shaped wheel brace that also doubled and the jack winderer upperer. No other tools.

I think those extra things really only started to happen with the increasing numbers of japanese cars in the early seventies.

In 60's New Zealand, where we had CKD UK kits, there was a black plastic bag with a main pocket (jack and wheel brace) and some small pockets that had a spark plug tube socket and a plain bar with a "D" shaped head that fitted through the socket to turn it. My fairly original '66 Cooper S has the same but the bag is made from slightly different material. The above applies to UK Mk1 and Mk2 models, not sure about later.

on some i have seen a seperate hubcap removing tool,

on later ones it is incorporated into the other end of the wheel brace.

I think it was the other way round..
Early cars (including my `61 850) the jack and handle/wheelbrace/hubcap remover were red,
later cars (Clubby??) the jack and handle/wheelbrace were black and the hubcap tool (also black) was separate as you say.
I am not sure when the changeover happened.

Correct and early cars (maybe pre 62?) had a wheel brace that was slightly lighter (smaller in diameter of the steel handle). The brace was painted in a blood red and the jack in an orange-red.

In addition to the Jack and wheel brace my 68 Aus. Cooper S has the plug spanner and handle and have often wondered if it is original.

Opinions??

I've seen other tool kits with it also.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, NZ and UK sourced cars had a plug spanner (tube socket and small bar).

I'll take some photos tomorrow of the set in my 850 for you. Can someone post them up here? It might be helpful. The tools are as new and as original as you will find. I can also measure the bar.
