Post subject:  Front hub nut 60ftlb?

Greetings All.

Replacing front wheel bearings. (850 drum) with tapered type. Old manual I have say's front hub nut 60 ftlb. Was this for original roller type. Would it be the same for tapper bearings?

Also, the inner roller bearing had a huge circlip. I obviously bin that as I cant see the recess anymore.

Thanks
Alex.

1. 60 ft/lb still applies: its the strength of the thread, not what its holding.
2. I've never seen a circlip on a bearing assembly in a mini, any more details on that?

Thanks Harley.

I was worried about 'crushing" it, but thinking about it, I presume the new spacer stops that.

Just found the number of the circlip -21A1307- It describes it as a "Spacer". It sounds like it sets the oil seal at a specific spot. The new oil seal just bottoms out on the bearing cup.

Thanks again.

Alex

The circlip is really just a spacer to keep the inner seal in the correct position. There is no groove but I put it back in there when I did mine - (I think)

Is it a circlip, or the seal spacer (which looks like a piston ring).
Tapered rollers take a wider spacer, but you can run without it if careful fitting the seal.

Thanks too Doc.

It sat in nice and square. I'll leave it off.
Now to the next side.
Last week coming home from work it was whinning like hell. I cleaned the roller bearings in petrol (just curious) and they were not as loose as i thought. They free spin and if I spin em fast enough, one has a funny vibration. Anyhow, tapers will be better and safer.

Cheers
alex.
(Crap! The keyboards dirty. NoW I'm in trouble!)
