I am after opinions on what is the best 7 port head out there.

Been looking at the MED and the Specialist Components 7 port heads as they both have Engine Management Systems and fuel injection .
The Pierce 7 port looks good at the price , but does it need a far bit work to get it going?
The Specialist Components 7 port head and Engine Management System looks very nice with all the CNC billet - but is it any good?

I think the best 7 port heads that are readily available, are the elder heads made and produced by Graham Russel.

Apparently the pierce heads need a lot of work to make them "good"

Cheers

If you want outright performance - the elder head design by Graham Russell is the best IMO - designed and developed locally.

The Pierce heads are the best value for money and you will see improvments over a standard 5port but a worked 5port can make more power - it just wont have the bling or the glorious sound of twin webers 8)

The Specialist components is more show that the others with not as much go. Ports are too big.

Any 7 port head can be fuel injected easily enough so i wouldn't let that sway your decision.

I have the Pierce 5 port head that has been ported by GR on my mini ,but with the RE13 cam I miss the low down torque when driving around the city.
I was thinking a 7 port would give me a lot more torque down low and make the crawl in city traffic ... kind of enjoyable.
As much as webers are a cool sound ,they are not for me !

next time you have it apart, try an RE83 - or if you talk to GR, ask what he thinks the 83 would be like in it

The RE83 would be great , but I like the top end power of the RE13..
I know you can't really have both with the 5 port head .
I really don't want to pull out the the motor any time soon , so that's why I was looking at a 7 port head and the engine has only done under 6000km from the last rebuild.

I hear the SC billet head has been having cooling problems, as there is NO water above the combustion chambers.
It does not have a water jacket as we know it, just drillings from each end.

My vote if you want performance, would be for the Elder 7 port.
The others have ports that are too big and/or do not flow well.

Mini Bug, I have an RE13 and 1.46 rockers in the stroker (OK, it does have 1412cc) and it pulls pretty well down low. It will pull from 40KMH in 4th gear (3.44 diff) provided I don't snap the throttle wide open (I'm running a 45 Dellorto with 36mm chokes).
Don't set the rockers too tight- you want .016" with std rockers or .019" with 1.5s. Too tight and you WILL lose low down torque.

I have my roller rockers 1.5 Minispares type set to .019" ,but maybe with the Pierce 5 port head that is fitted I need to set it to .021 .
Where did you hear that the SC billet head has been having cooling problems?
