Nice, but WOW ![]() > $1,000 for a pair of incomplete non-locking petrol caps is a big ask! |

The seller has been unloading his collection of BMC/Leyland stuff for a while now. He managed to grab a lot of prototype stuff when the Zetland factory was closing. He seems a nice bloke, I bought some stuff from him a while back. |

Even with proof what good are they, no good putting them on a GT, they didn't have them. All they can ever be is a prototype that never went into production, curiosity value only. Not that I would pay it but I reckon a grand for a gear knob would be better value, at least it would be useful. |

I think he sold the styling diagrams and blueprints for the fuel caps previously. They are the real deal. I know that they were never used but still it would make a nice ornament. A month ago he was selling prototype badges for the Marina before they were going to be called the Marina. A while back he was selling P82 stuff including the 1:5 scale styling model. (The P82 was the replacement for the Marina which was going to have an alloy V6) |

I am caught between the devil and the deep on this one. They are actually artifacts of Australian automotive history and belong in a museum for all to see and be properly preserved. However, at that price I guess they are not going to just corrode away in somebody's workshop cupboard. We all need money from time to time and I guess we all sell things we wish we didn't have to becuase of fiscal needs. Mike |

well,,, i don`t know the history of the GT fuel caps, but if morris 1100 knows them to be the real deal then i will go with that... & also because i do know 'some" history of the P82 & if this guy has/had some P82 stuff then i expect he would be the real deal for sure, becuase where else would you get that stuff??? so,,,, if i had the money,,, i`d probably pay the grand for them,,, pity i don`t have the money tho,,, but i reckon they`d make a really nice piece in amongst the other mini ornaments in my collectors cupboards ![]() |

There is some obscure stuff around if you look for it. Yesterday I got a copy of the Training Notes for the E-series FWD motor (ie: the Morris 1500). Not really obscure till you you see it lists two models, the normal Morris 1500 and the Morris 1500S. The S version would have had a higher compression ratio and twin carbies. The 1500S was never built. |

Yes = the great supercar fiasco. Anything with "S", "GT", "Sports" was hugely more expensive to insure even if it only had a better level of interior trim. |

Just a hypothetical... If you were going to make fake prototype fuel caps for profit you would probably make the "GT" script look like the final design badge and not an earlier unused version. ![]() |

![]() Hey Morris, I agree, I have no reason to disbelieve their authenticity but still question their value. Stvee |
