Hey guys I got a pretty good quote from Shannon's the other day for full comp.

My question is I didn't tell them the motor I have now (850 was original i think . now a 1275 with discs) isn't the original motor.

I did tell them on the other hand that it was a 1.3 lt will they give a rats that it's not original ...

I am planning on calling them back to clarify a few things so any advice would b good.

If you told them you have an 850 with a 1.3 whats the problem?
They're good to deal with, dont stress about anything.

I'm with Harley......great crowd to do business with. Recently had to claim as the daughter wrote off my daily drive, and I had the money in my bank account four working days after the crash.

I work in insurance, and im 99.9% sure that shannons calls are recorded. As long as you have disclosed that fact in the call, they cannot knock back a claim based on non-disclosure. Just check your paperwork when it arrives and if it doesn't state it on there anywhere, give em a ring and ask them to put a note on your policy stating that the engine is 1.3. I did the same thing when I insured my 88 rover with the 1.3i. Hope this helps!

Will I need an engineers cert for the engine swap?

Hi,
I am with shannons too, my car was originally was a 998 then I swapped it with 1275 and gave them a call they said it is fine. Only thing you pay $50 extra at the beginning; for being modified.
When I had my incident with the kangaroo I called them 11:30 pm and they did organize the tow truck in about one and a half an hour.
Panel beaters they work with (Stylerod Panels) was great too.

I tried to insure our Mini with them a few year ago, but they wouldn't deal with me because the car was in my wifes name. I tried to tell them we were married and that I delt with the car side of things and that dealing with my wife would be hopeless because she doesn't know anything about it. But they refused to deal with me because I wasn't the registered owner of the vehicle.
How would I pre-insure a car that i was about to buy then?
Maybe I just got someone being difficult. I have since tried to insure through their website but it won't insure my Mini for the going rate. So I have given up with them!

2 solutions:
1. you have a conference call between insurer, yourself and your wife to answer their questions, or,
2. you transfer the car over to the other person. In victoria, you can transfer car between spouses without needing a roady or any of that other crap.

3. Call them back and ask to speak to a supervisor.

From what I have seen with various threads about Shannons over the years is that every now and then they seem to get someone on the phone that is not helpful and knows very little about car insurance.
A second call to a different person seem to clear up any problems but by then they might have lost the customer.

I recently had to claim after hitting a roo in my mini and it couldn't have been easier. The girl on the other end of the phone was very sympathetic. The only issue was that the panel beater they recommended couldn't assess the repair for a few weeks but I found another local guy who could fix it and they were happy with that.

Just do the 3 calls rule, if the first person doesnt sort it call back the next day and then the next day again if the problem is still there, then leave if its not cleared up.

My advice if renewing or starting a new policy would be to shop around. I was with Shannons but now with Lumleys. It saved me $120- on the mini and that was with them offering to put the agreed value of my car up by $5000-! My Commodore was also $100- cheaper with them and value the same. Same excess amount.
