Post subject: | Have questions about my Mini K |
Hi guys. Since I live in the USA, getting info on my 1969 Mini K is next to impossible so I need some Aussie help. I'm in the process of painting it and since I've got most of it disassembled (not doing a complete tear down), I want to get it back to original as much as I can. It can never be all original as some previous owner tried to make it a Cooper S. I just don't know how much of it is Copper vs. Mini K so I have a few questions. Did the K come with front disc brakes? Were any K's offered with fender flairs as an option? Was black interior an option for a Crystal White car? Is there a modern paint color that matches Crystal White? Was the K's dash metal body color or was vinyl an option? Thanks very much for any info. I'll post some pics when it's finished. Bruno |

I'll get off to a start: Ks didn't come with discs, but I'd be keeping them anyway if they're the 7.5s. I believe the flares were only on the coopers. My car was Snow white with a black interior, so its possible. Dash was body colour. I'm sure some more poeple will pipe up soon with more / better answers. |

This is the dash of my 1970 K. ![]() I can't really offer much more constructive info from my car, 'cos the interior has been tweaked by a previous owner as well; things like small sports steering wheel, later model high-back seats & cloth upholstery. |

If you need a pic of a particular area let me know, we have had our Mini K from new so I know what few small things have been altered over the years. We have just taken it off the road with the intention of doing a resto in the coming ummm yearssssssssssss. Well when the funds become available, I don't want to pull it apart until we can afford to make a sizeable impression in the resto. It is a bit hard to access at the moment, it is in the corner of the garage with a lot of stuff stacked in front of it. Here is a pic taken in 1993 when I gave it to my daughter for her 18th birthday to drive as a daily driver, it had 12,000 miles on it at that stage, she has driven it every day since taking it off the road late last year. I think it has now done around 120,000 miles still the original motor/gearbox etc, motor has never been out of the car. In the photo you can see it has some none original parts fitted, the flares are Cooper S flares, it has Contessa alloy wheels, the quick release wing nuts that hold the grill in place and H4 headlights fitted. It had just had a home respray so the Mini K stickers just in front of the doors are missing. The colour is Sugarcane with a Blue interior. ![]() |

If it has a 1275 then keep the discs ![]() No flares in any of the publicity shots just a chrom strip But that's not to say a dealer would not have put them on if u asked All metal on the inside was body colored Repo k stickers are available but good front badges are rare |

The Cooper S flares were available from BMC as a kit when the cars were new. Anyone notice the Leyland logo on the brochure. Most people don't realise that Leyland was already running the show when the K was released. |

There's quite a good writeup in issue 18 of the Mini Experence. http://miniexperience.com.au/issue-18/mini-k.html You can order back issues through the Mags website. http://miniexperience.com.au/shop/australia-back-issues.html |

Thanks again for the replies..... Discs will stay as well as the flares. I was lucky enough to buy an original badge off ebay at a good price. Already have the stickers. Found an original steering wheel (the car had a 13" Formuling wheel) but it has the Leyland badge so I'm on the hunt for a BMC badge. Got the Mini Exp DVD and it was a great help. One other question. Were the demister vent surrounds body color or were they painted black? Thanks. |

The demister vents should be body colour. Here is a photo of my former 1969 Morris Mini K. My Mini K was Crystal White with blue upholstery. The photo was taken way back in 1972. The steering wheel cover was an after-market accessory. ![]() |

This is a period photo of my former Crystal White 1969 Morris Mini K 1100, taken in January 1971. The only incorrect feature is the Morris Cooper S bonnet badge. [url] ![]() |

Spot On Morris! I still have the original weathershield stored away. My Mini K was supplied new by Lancaster Motors Pty. Ltd., Chatswood. However I had all the servicing done by J.E. Allen Pty. Ltd. at Dural. Rob |
