Look like something off thunderbirds.... love the old designs for specific tasks....

What great photos. Good surfing of the web there. Kenworth also made a low roof prime mover as well. Probably a little later than those Leylands.

Interesting photos. I recall seeing a similar low-cab semi-trailer on the Hume Highway near Marulan, probably in the mid 1970's.

The Leyland UFO! (That is what the Australian one was called) One was used in Australia during the 70s. The TWU tried to get it banned as being unsafe.
I believe that they were quite common in NZ at the time.

I think it was called a Leyland Leopard bus chassis or based on it , probably an evolution of the Comet and then of course the Super Comet with the box cab

The Australian one had a much lower cabin that the NZ ones. You could look out the window of mums HQ Premier and look down at the UFO driver. The cabin was not much taller than the front tyre of the truck.
The TWU had concerns about the visibility and crash protection for the driver.
