Should a moderator be allowed to give his opinion and comment on an item advertise for sale ? Especially when for sale and Ebay for sale threads are supposedly locked for commenting on. Locked for everyone including mods.. Please remove comment it is unfair for the seller of Replica GT Gear Knob " That is terrible "

4. Objectionable comments about a business or company, whether it be true or not, are not allowed.

Who cares??? That knob is crap. If the post was in a different area we would all be commenting on how poor a replica it is.
Anyone care to disagree??

I think anyone who knows what they are looking at would know that it's not genuine (at least not to the aussie GT's... please note the price is advertised in Pounds.... perhaps this knob was fitted to the pommie gt's or something????)

Either way, its not an "aweful" looking knob, I think it looks pretty good.... it's just nothing like the Aussie knobs.... and look at the price... 13 Pounds... its not massive rip off if you bought it thinking it was a genuine one.. The last genuine Aussie GT knob I bought I paid just shy of $400 for.... I don't think the seller is reaaaaaallly taking anyone for a ride

I think the point Tony is making is that no one else can comment in those threads, but a moderator has expressed his view. So without allowing people to respond it's a bit one sided.

So currently 1 person has expressed their view but everyone else is unable to. As opposed to everyone being able to express their view, thereby ruinning for sale threads, or no one comments, therefore being equal to all.

If i have misunderstood Tony then i'm sorry, and i'll shut up.

That is the way I saw it too.
I think the mods just forget that when they do post in those threads that nobody else can respond.

Yep, the threads look like any other thread from any other room when you view them with moderator rights. Its easy to do when you view posts by the view new posts lists instead of viewing room by room.

That's what I figured. I hit the reply button in that thread and then said "Doh."

So, why is our eBay for sale forum locked anyway?
It defeats its purpose, surely we can discuss Ebay items which are publicly listed for sale (by anybody, not just us). No other forum I visit has this restriction.
Maybe it's the goverment's proposed netnanny filter, but I didn't realise Senator Conroy's tentacles reached this far.

Hmmmmm... that does go back a while. I think the drama was that the people who were selling stuff on eBay most often surfed these pages as well.

Someone would post a link to a car for sale, a ton of people would judge a guy based on what they could see in the small pictures and 50 word description, and then voice an opinion. Often the owner would get his hackles up and nasty posts would ensue. After a half dozen pages or so of abuse and fist shaking, the thread would be deleted. The community is pretty small around here...

That was how I remember the admin discussion at the time.

Mick,
I remember all that angst and drama, but it was in the FOR SALE forum, not the eBay one.
I think you and yer accomplices ought to have another meeting re the eBay forum. We've grown up a bit since then (most of us). :P

We can still start another thread in Mini chat if we really feel the need to bag an ebay advert. But I do think the ebay ads could be open to discussion.

Point taken, I have removed my comment.

What was said above was exactly what happened though, I replied forgetting it was a normally locked area and then wondered why nobody else had replied
