Post subject:  K&N single point injection filter kit

Hey guys,
I am looking to get the K&N single point injection kit for my automatic rover mini (93 model)

I emailed K&N on why this wont work for the automatic rover minis and i was given this response:

the reason part number 57-0082 will not fit your vehicle can range from a simple fitment issue to complex engine complications. Part number E-9172 is the only part K&N currently offers, that is compatible with your application.

I already have the filter he recomended but i would like the induction kit..
Anyway bit of a silly question.. Why won't it work on my mini? and is there any way to make it work?

I no less about rovers than I do about aus minis but Im guessing it wont physically fit. It does seem a very large kit.

Have you considered the K&N appolo or any other of the universal replacement air boxes

Load of crap: both versions will fit.
I suggest the K&N filter to fit the standard air box.

I have the normal K&N filter for the airbox but i would like the induction :D

I shall purchase an induction kit when the bank lets me :(

I've also heard that the induction kits don't do anything for EFI minis. Foe the price of the kit I do not think it's worth it for the "supposedly" tiny power increase.
Can you find any proof or claimed power increase on these kits?

I have nothing at hand, though I do remember an article in a UK mag from somone who'd tried it and they didn't find the pod filter of benefit over a replacement filter in the stock air box.
Maybe its because a pos sucks hot air, but the airbox acts like a cold ait intake?

with the airbox there is a little valve that opens after the manifold creates suction to allow for hot air off the extractors to flow through the airbox cutting off the "cold" air intake.

the K&N pod has a "cold" air pipe which i guess you just place somewhere near the grille and bring back to the filter.

I'll give it a go and see what happens, I wont throw out the old airbox yet.

The airbox valve is only open and taking in warm air when the car is warming up, one everything is normal temp is closes and the car runs off the cold air.

Or you could just remove the thing like I did. :lol:

hmm odd.

Mine was always open so it never took in cold air.
I removed the whole unit when i re did my extractors a while back.

i mate of mine had a 95 1.3 SPI , he fitted one of those K&N induction kits and the car lost about ~5 KPH top speed.
He just removed the thing.

Another part of the problem is the air flow sensor: with the K&N pod filter there's less flow directly in the line of the sensor, but with the element in the standard box, more of the air goes right past it.
