Can i put 145's on 5inch mags? I'm wanting to acheive a more vertical/no bulge tyre wall to try and get under my flares. Currently have 10x5 contessa wheels with 165/70/10 on em. The innocenti flares do not cover the fronts by a long shot due to the 4 pot caliper disc brake set up. I would like to get flares that will give legal coverage, but i cannot find anything in between the innocenti style and the massive 89mm style flare, which is too big. |

Yes you can run 145 tyres on 5" Contessas. I did for many years. But you should not need to. I've also had 165/70R10 A008's on the same rims with S disks and they were just covered by innocenti flares. So your four pot setup must push the wheel further outwards? A slightly wider option that looks good is the Wood and Picket flares. They will definitely cover your rubber and be cheaper than buying new tyres. Cheers, |

I have MiniSpares' alloy 4-pots over 7.5" rotors, Cooper S spaced rear drums, 10x5 Contessas with A008s and Innocenti flares -- I have no trouble at all with tyres extending past the flares. There must be something else going on... [edit] -----v That's it down there in the footer pic ![]() |

dics are unknown origin. They definately stick out further than normal. My measurements from the front guard tell me i need around 2.5 inch coverage. ![]() |

You are trying to cure a symptom, perhaps you should fix the cause and sell the discs. If it has altered your track that much chances are the car is illegal anyway. Also 145 on a 5inch rim look crap. |

a decrease in tyre contact patch would undo the advantage of 4 pot brakes. in addition 145r10 are hard to get, and are only available in economy/hard compounds. i'd get some wide flares or change the brakes. you could also try to run negative offset wheels like the LS contessas if they fit over the brakes. |

How does that work? The 4 pots should still be better than other brakes of lesser efficiency. |

At what track width does it become illegal? Anyone got any pics of how crap a 145 on a 5 inch look? |

Any modification to the factory track width, is deemed illegal in qld. Simple things like spacers are perfectly legal down south but not here in qld. I am guessing you have outward offset contessa's and i am also guessing they are early version, which had a larger outward offset. suggestion of neg camber on teh front will decrease the amount of tire visible form above but any D.O.T or police person will not fall for it. What diameter is the rotor? Do your rims actually fit and rotate on the car? |

Rotors are 7.5 that PO tells me were ground down from 8.4. If i remember correctly i think they are MG metro or similar. My rims do fit over, just. |

It is not illegal to fit S brakes and wheels to an 850, Deluxe, K or a Matic even. They are an `option' for this vehicle (Mini). As is a 998, 1098 or 1275. It is even legal to increase the track width by 1" beyond S track, but any more is illegal unless you engineer the car. As for `spacers' they are illegal in every state unless factory fitment (like my Fiat 124 had, but these were screwed on). It still amazes me when I see POS universal slotted ones hanging in shops for sale. ![]() |

As a suggestion I am about to redo this on my car as I bought some new innocent flares Which will b fitted soon the old are sh!those. Rivet a 1 inch strip of plastic the length of the car to the bottom of the flares.(bunnings) Attatch the Cooper chrome strip to it... No problem. My current wheels and tires are 10x6" revos with A008s. Pics if u want |
