Not wanting to steal someone elses thread, I thought I would start another about Lynn Browns sports sedan the story is continueing from http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=74883 Lynn called me the other night and followed with this email. With a bit of luck he will join the Forum soon. Hi John, "This was the final of the Jack Hayward Smash Repairs sponsored minis, and was built by Geoffrey Simmons. Jack purchased this car for $95 as a stolen/recovered vehicle from NRMA Insurance. It was a black, beautiful long stroke cooper, that had been dumped in water. It even had a tide mark in the speedometer! Of course, we completely stripped the car and rebuilt it with all original steel panels (with bracing removed). Original sub frames were used. The true genius to this car's handling was the strengthening and bracing of the sub frames by Geoffrey. The engine was a 1408 cc Cooper S (including cylinder head), with one 45mm weber. Close ratio gear box. 3.4 diff. 9000 rpm. 10 inch steel wheels with big bag good year tyres. At Bathurst in this guise, this car did 142.3 mph - not assisted by Peter Brock ( who was not there) or anyone else! After the meeting, we did have to cut the flywheel from the crank, as they had welded together" Many Thanks, Lynn & Trish Brown |

Just goes to show what a comparatively 'stock' (ie not radically modified) race Mini was capable of if built and driven the right way. Five port, 10 inchers, OE subframes, steel panels .... |

Anyone know what happened to this Mini after Lynn gave up racing? Is it still around? |

Hi Slide Car was written off by the new owner. I have made some models of some of his cars. Perhaps Mick (9YaTaH) might be kind enough to add the pics or a link. John. ![]() |

Thats an incredible top speed down conrod for a cast iron mini. We really need a thread on more of these old race minis and their drivers. They wont be around forever unfortunately |
