Odd question, would anyone have an idea of the expected economy for a 998 with a single SU?

My car seems to go through fuel quickly and I am looking for something tangible to gauge it against.

25L standard tank?

I get almost exactly 200miles from 35L but I run a 45mm Dellorto and a 1330cc...

If it is using a lot of juice I would suspect the carby needle and main jet.
Your model had an HS4 SU with a swinging needle, these wear the side of the jet, making the mixture richer all the way up.
You are supposed to replace them every 40,000km? but of course, nobody does- it's a Mini. :lol:

Oh good question - I always thought they had a 20L tank, 1976 Leyland. I am assuming it is a standard sized tank..

It does smell quite rich if that makes sense? I have only recently purchased the car so I could not tell you if the needle has been replaced or not.

They are around 25L. Lillee ^^^ has a bigger tank off a 1275LS or a UK Mini.

To answer the original question, on a highway run my 1100 with twin HS2s gets between 6.5 and 7.0 L/100km. A 998 should do similarly, if not better when tuned properly.

A normal road Mini should get around 6 to 7 L/100km (40 to 47 MPG in the old currency) in normal highway driving.

There is no point in saying "I get 150km to a fill" when we don't know how much you stuck in it!

I keep a diary of my fuel economy for my Morris 1100 ever since I got it in 1998. It makes pretty dismal reading! An 1100 should get 40mpg (7 l/100km) but it never does!
Now I have a new 1275 (1368) and a taller diff things should change. I filled it yesterday and got 24mpg (11.7 l/100km) :lol: And that was a big improvement over the two previous tanks where I got 20 mpg (14 L/100km)

I get the receipt from the servo and I write the miles from the speedo onto the receipt. When I get home I work out the economy and write it into a book with any notes about changes to the car like changing carbies/distributor, filters etc. and if it was city or highway driving. If you do it properly you can see patterns emerging. I could do it all on a spreadsheet but I couldn't be arsed! :lol:

Depends a lot on how its driven.

Could be anywhere from 25 to 45 mpg (or what ever that is in new money).

And the fuel tanks in these is less than the old 25 litre tanks, probably closer to 22 litres. The filler neck is longer in to the tank, to ensure there is some space for expansion without sputing hot fuel out the filler cap.

My Hairy lime 75 Mini has a 1380 engine, Std Head , Extractors and 1 3/4 in Exhaust and a 104 Cam and running a HIF44, Also fitted with a 3.1 Diff and 12 inch wheels. It does 15.3Km/per ltr. That is around 336 Km out of a standard small tank. Great cruiser.

My 02 Audi s3 which is stage 2 with 22psi !!
Gets 3.6l/100km on the freeway and 42lt/100km on boost

Back in the 60,s I regularly got 50mpg on a trip out of me stock 850 then I upgraded to a Cooper S and sock standard returned around 38mpg mostly only 1 POB not sure what that is in this new measurement we have now,

42lt/100km? Bet your local fuel station loves you!

My 998 gets around 6.5l/100km, and that's for a well rounded mix of country roads, highways and city streets. I'm sure I could get it lower, but I like a spirited drive through the country roads.

Edit: I have a stage 1 998; water heated inlet, lcb exhaust manifold with a RC40 exhaust.

Ha, that depends on the sunshine - hard not to enjoy them when the sun is shining and the weather is good - also depends on the number of corners on the drive LOL :D
Seriously, just mainly around home, to and from work etc.
