Does anyone hear of oils reacting with each other and blocking oilways anymore? I know this used to be a bad issue with the oil galleries slowly blocking up over time. I was wondering if this still exists with new oils. |

I think you are pretty safe with mineral oils, I wouldn't mix synthetic oil with it though. Original Castrol R (castor oil based) had a reputation for blocking things up many years ago if you left it standing too long in a motor, but that stuff was just a race oil. Lovely smell though... ![]() |

I've mixed plenty of oils of the same weight over my time... |

So for instance, you wouldn't swap back and forth using a semi-synthetic oil to a straight mineral oil? Or do you mean full synth to a mineral perhaps? I've been sticking with Penrite since building this 1275 eight years back, and have had a clean, reliable and easy to keep cool engine. I would like to try another oil, simply out of curiosity more than anything else but I've seen the results of this when the Navy changed it's oil throughout the fleet a decade or so back. They ended up with gummed up oilways and all kinds of problems resulting from the swapping and mixing of oil in it's big diesels. I thought maybe it was an issue that might have been sorted by now accross the industry. |

I meant Mineral...I don't use synthetic in the mini.. For instance, the other day i topped up some Castrol Forumla R 20w50 with Valvoline XLD 20w50...since the lovely A-series has started an appetite for oil ![]() Motor's on it's last legs..if it was new, i would prefer not to mix oil, but it certainly does no harm IMO.. |
