The older, original bumpers, overriders, grilles and moustaches were chrome plated. These days the modern reproductions are mostly in s. steel. Are they any explicit advantages in one over the other?

How would they look mixed - Ie has anyone had a ssteel grille and a chrome moustache or bumper for example? Does it all blend and look matching, or put one next to the other the items look mismatched and out of place?

Stainless is generally duller than most chromes...however..it is preferrable because it can be stronger and more rust resistant :!:

I would go for stainless every time (IF I wasn't in the show business)

Polished stainless doesn't look the same as chrome but at least it won't rust (as long as all screws and bolts etc use on them are stainless as well). THere is nothing stopping you from chrome plating stainless however (my personal pref) 8)

Original chrome looks better than S/S with higher lustre, but repro chrome is variable. I suspect they take shortcuts- ie no copper plate under it first.
These days most bumpers are S/S but they are thin as hell, very soft and won't stand a bump. I know this..

i have front bumper thats chrome and back bumper is stainless.
I know that you can get stainless polished up extreamly shiney and chrome will
get rust under it eventually.
So saying all that does anyone know where i can get a new front bumper.(in stainless)?? and i might get a new grill too i wonder how much im up for?.

Yea chrome aint what it used to be. My bumpers are probably 35 years old (chromed with crimped ends and overriders) and are still in good nick. The MK2 UK grille the POwner put on a few years back is already iffy.
