| Post subject: | Heater core as auxiliary radiator |
I'm looking to plumb in a heater core inside the grill as an auxiliary radiator for some extra cooling. What are the recommendations here and also where do the pipes get plumbed too? I know this isnt the forsale section but does anyone happen to have one in good working order to buy? Any help appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi, I used a core from a HJ or similar Holden. Purchased it new and had the outlets changed to 1/2 inch, and had my brackets soldered on at the local radiator shop. About $75 all up and works a treat. Plumbed it into the heater circuit, which does not have a tap.

I like that very neat. I would have the inlet of the shown extra cooler coming from the heater take off in the head (next to #4) and then going back into the top tank of ther radiator,( yes this has to be done by a radiator shop]. Blank off the bypass hose, drill holes around the outside of the thermostat and Robert's your mothers brother. |

I used a clubman heater core in the past as I had a few laying around. Worked well. |

Yep we put a Clubby core in my mate's Cooper S similar to pic above ^^. Works a treat. |

Thanks for that. So basically I can use any sort of core as long as it will fit? Is it best to plumb into the heater circuit? Specifically which hoses go where? |

Okay-Another pic: I'm guessing that you have the same radiator(Clubmans)with the heater outlet coming from the radiator(ie steel pipe-look closely at the pic). If you look again at the pick-there are two outlets coming from the additional heater core.Route your hoses along the firewall(see pic). One goes to the cylinder head(get rid of your heater tap). The other goes to the steel pipe coming out of the radiator. Hope that helps.

Ah I see. Does it matter which hose (top or bottom) goes to the radiator and which goes to the cylinder head? Also why do I need to get rid of the heater tap? Do i just put a joiner here? Would any sort of heater core do the job, from any type of car? Anyone got a spare clubby heater core??

Any heater core will do but some are more robust than others. Clubby core is not too big, and the tanks are pretty solid. It really doesn't matter which hose goes to the head, it'll work either way as it's being pumped. |
