Post subject:  1275LS motors?

A lad was trying to say that 1275LS's came standard with a+ motors.

This lads a real loser, so I dont believe him but can someone confirm/deny this?

Cheers Brenton

They had so-called A+ timing covers (with tensioner) and A+ rockers, 12G1316 smog head, that is all... block [edit- and the whole bottom end] is A series.
I believe the late 1275 Mokes got A+, I had one in Barney.

Some late Mokes got A+ gear sets on non-A+ blocks (well the 998 one I bought had that combo anyway).

The 1275LS block is not the same as an 1100S block but it is not an A+ block.

My 1275LS motor has the timing cover with the hump for the tensioner but there is no tensioner in it. I don't know if it was ever fitted, I can't remember seeing any signs of it.

They have an A+ layshaft in the box, too?

Mine had the big bearing drop gears and the later layshaft box. But the motor had signs of being blown up (one odd con-rod and a few scars on the block) so there is a chance the box may have been changed.
I got the car in 1984 so anything could have been changed in those first six years.

The 1275LS`s weren`t meant to have A+ boxes,,, not saying that some weren`t fitted with them, but i suspect it would have been very very very rare,,, (notice i used 3x "very"`s there)

the late mokes got A+ boxes & donks for sure

but the LS`s were pretty much the (What i call) "Inbetweeny" blocks ,,, as in inbetween 1100S blocks & A+ blocks -->(As morris 1100 said with the lump in the block for the extra bolt for the tensioned "Type" blocks but no extra webs like the A+ got) & not "ALL" of them were even "inbetweeny" blocks either, early ones were just like 1100S blocks but with LS numbers stamped

The A+ Engine was developed for the Metros. The Gearboxes first appeared in the UK very late in 78, the engines mid to late 79. The Mokes didn't see the A+ Gearboxes until ~Sept / Oct 79 and the A+ Engines until Oct / Nov 79.

One of my Mokes had A+ Gearbox, pre A+ Block and A+ Rods. This one was plated October 1979. I bought it with 8 000km on the clock. It was as it came from the factory. The 1275 LS's were too early, only just, for the A+ stuff.
