If - and that is a big IF - it only happens when idling, it could be gummy rings from using crap oil or not changing your oil.

Get some quality name brand Diesel (lube) Oil, change your oil and filter. Run with that for about 500 km. Change Oil and filter again for something decent.

If that don't work, then time for a re-bore, new pistons and rings.

White smoke... Burning water? Head gasket? How's the car running?

yep, no rings left... when mine did that (prior to the necessary rebuild), I had a bit of garden hose redirecting the smoke under the car so it wasn't stinking me up so bad. Someone stopped me at the lights and told me the car was on fire

From you first description it does sound awefully like burnt Oil smoke from the rocker cover. If the engine is fresh and you say you're using a good (suitable?) oil, then the bores are likely glazed.

What oil are you using?

dad didn't run his engine in properly after I did a quick rebuild on it, glazed the bores and used to pump oil smoke out of the exhaust. Once I told him to stop being a wuss and drive it properly, the smoke went away.... but that was a lot different to mine where I had a chimney under the bonnet

oil control rings stop the oil coming up, and compression rings stop the explosion going down.... if you've got explosion gases going down, then guess what

$9 from supercrap, right?

I reckon that stuff is rubbish. My mate was using it in his motorkhana car, and it turns to sludge in his sump between events
