Hi guys my mini needs a new exhaust and manifold so I thought why not go something a bit bigger. My question is this, how big should I go with out it sounding rediculous? I also would like to know roughly what it would cost for the setup? I am working to a tight budget which makes things a bit harder too |

Size DOES matter. ![]() If you put a dirty big 2" system on a 998 you will LOSE power, compared to a 1-3/4" one. So- My recommendation: modded 998-1098 and 1275 up to 100HP = a 1-3/4" (OD) system. 100-120HP bigbore = 1-7/8" system 120HP up bigbore = 2" system. When dynoing bigbores, try a few pipe sizes. I found my 1412 with single HS6 liked a 1-7/8" system best. HP mentioned is at crank, not wheels... ![]() |

I remember the first thing I did to my first mini (1098 clubby) years and years ago was buy a set of LCBs and put a 1 7/8" exhaust with a 6" cherry bomb and Lukey oval muffler. B-e-autiful sound! I probably lost a few hp with the bigger 1 7/8" pipe, but damn it sounded good. Later on I made up a Y-pipe straight out of the Lukey into twin 2" pipes about 2ft long out to the back of the car. I don't know about hp, but it sounded great! It made it deeper and had a lot more pop on overrun ![]() You can see them poking out the back here: ![]() |

Kermit, yours is stcok i belive so leave it alone unless its buggered. If you change the exhaust to a larger size you may only gain noise if you dont change the maniflod aswell. does it have extractors or a std manifold ? |

Hi Guys thanks for the replies. The manifold does need to be done along with the exhaust. So I'll be doing both. So going to big will make me lose power and I should go between a 1 3/4 inch pipe and a 1 7/8? I want a nice note but I don't want to lose power from the monster 998 lol |

1-3/4 system is plenty for any 998. Is what the 997 & 998 Cooper, and 1275 Cooper S had stock. Use an RC40 muffler and engine pipe if you want a nice note. The `twin box' (resonator + muffler) version is quieter and loses no power. If you use it with a Maniflow LCB you can buy the whole lot from Karcraft, use std Cooper S brackets and mounts and it all just bolts up. |
