I have a Deluxe with a 15AC alternator on it that has died and i cant seem to fine another around, I am looking at fitting a 16 or 17ACR, can anyone advise of the mods i will need to do for the wiring?
just trying to see what is needed as i am sure they have an internal regulator.

or if anyone has a wiring diagram for one tat would be great.

Grant,
I have done this same mod.

Disconnect the regulator plug
hook the brown/yellow wire to the `ind' terminal on the alt.
Tape up the green/brown wire (field), it's not used now.
Enjoy!
[edit] the big thick brown 12V+ output wire goes onto one of the 2 big spade lugs.

You can actually leave the old regulator connected to its plug if you want- as the output to the alt field isn't used now anyway.

Grant , if you do a search on this subject as there has been plenty of discussion on this.

It should be a straight changeover .

Doc or Tony might jump in soon and sort this out in proper terms for you .

Geeez your quick Doc :D

It should be a straight changeover , and you should be able to leave your ext reg in place ( if you want ). The large brown wire will go to the large tern as is, and you should only have to connect the field wire up to the smaller terminal.

Field wire is not used as you now have internal reg.
The ind light must be hooked up though or alternator no worky.

ok guys the saga continues,

car was fine for 2 days and then the light came on and battery went flat, now the light does nto even come on.

do we think this could be a blown ign globe and then this could stop it charging?

I just cant get over to see the car in the coming days thats all.

thoughts?

Pull the bulb out and check it.
If blown the alternator won't charge.
It needs excitation through the lamp circuit to start charging.
