I'm jamming the front subby in the S and want to know one thing. There are washers on the tower bolts, do they go on top(engine bay side), or between the subby towers and the body? If that makes sense, thanks. |

for a dry subframe, there should be a 1/4" thick spacer plate between the subframe and the crossmember it should be the same shape as the top of the tower, with a big hole in the centre and smaller holes for the studs to go through if someone has replaced the spacer plate with washers, you should source the correct plates |

On top of the crossmember. The thick spacer plates with 3 holes are only used on dry subbies. |

Subframe is comming out again. After lining up all bolts and then tighning up, the last tower bolt decided to be a pain in the donkey. When removed i found it has snapped the last few threads off  I've tried to get around it by spacing the bolt with a few extra washers, but no joy  . So i guess subframe is comming out again and i'll tap the tower and make it right. Man i'm pissed about this. Subframe has been out for 2 years.
What size are the tower bolts? Should i tap the thread a size larger? |

I had the same thing happen years ago. I used a heli-coil kit to fix it without removing the subframe. With a helicoil you drill and tap to a certain size and then wind in a threaded insert. It's not hard to do and the end result is probably stronger than the original thread anyway. Cheers, |

I'm pretty sure the threads in top of a wet subby are 5/16" UNF. I have a tap here with a bit of key steel welded to it, I had to clean the thread up when one of my bolts refused to start. Did it in the car. All good now.
