Post subject: | Cooper Flare's / Size? |
Greetings All. Just doing some early homework. As there are so many different flares available: I want to get some original looking flares like the Mk Cooper s. From what I've seen, these don't show any screws. And they require a strip pop rivetted on the guard lip. Are they normal plastic, and are they 2"?? Is there a particular part number or name? Currently there are (in ea guard) four holes about 6mm in size. No flares come with the car? These holes are about 25mm above the guard lip. There for a '62 Cooper. Cheers Alex. |

If you ring Mini King and ask for some MK2 Cooper S flares, he'll sort you out. He makes them in batches, so may not have any at the moment - if you ring and ask, then you'll know if he has some They're usually held on just using the side strip trim, sometimes with rivets going through the lower half of the trim, lip & flare (drilled very carefully!). You need to make a thin steel extension to the lip to support the underside of the flare, the extension is usually rivetted to the lip. MK2 S' had the extension spot welded The original 60's aftermarket kit for those flares came with a fitting kit that was a few plastic lugs that were screwed to the body, the flares have a cutout in the side that goes against the body that drop over the lugs. Your 6mm holes may be from those. The flares that were fitted to MK2 S' in the factory have the cutouts, but never had the lugs on the body does that make sense?? |

Alex, I have a full factory original flare kit. Which i bought from a bmc dealer about 10 years ago. Im sure it is the one you are looking for. If you order the plastic flare from somewhere else You could borrow and template the flat steel which needs to be spot welded to you wheel arches. Regards Allan |

".Currently there are (in ea guard) four holes about 6mm in size. No flares come with the car? These holes are about 25mm above the guard lip. .." I'll lay odds these were done by a PO when they attached a set of Sprite/ Mini Special plastic arches. I have a similar set of holes. PITA if you don't like them or change your mind. Cheers, Ian |

Thanks - Simon Allan and Ian. Allan I'll keep this in mind when I get closer to the guards. I'll e mail ya. (Did you get that Traveller Card?) Just spent my third weekend fixing the roof. Looked like someone stomped on it. (May have been on it's roof) Removed some old patches of bog. All metal finished. Just got a small dent about 25mm round above the gutter. Arms are too sore to do it tonite! LOL. Thanks Gents. |
