| Post subject: | Oil Pressure Gauge |
When I rev my engine in neutral the oil pressure gauge reads on high under high revs. It is a Smiths oil line gauge. When the car is driven on the road the gauge goes to high under high revs then drops off a bit. It only drops off a bit when on the road driving - not stationary. When the pressure gauge drops off a bit the car seem to hesitate or something. Could this be a tuning or power problem? |

If it is the larger diameter oil line you will see every fluctuation in your oil. As long as you have pressure, I wouldnt be too concerned with the pressure unless you are starting to lose sleep over it.. The stuttering could be a manner of things which a mechanic should look at but I had the same thing on the mini when I slowed from high speed - the car sounded like it was popping and farting and carrying on - was an air leak in the carby shaft so I went to a dellorto from a 1.5 SU. these two things are not related your hesitation is probably just low oil in the dashpot (the black nut thingy screwed into the top of the carb) |

The oil line is the Cooper S Style Brass/Cooper line from the block to the back of the instrument. |

Yes that is what the oil pressure line is made of. |

It may be worth checking that the oil pressure relief valve is not getting jammed open or closed. It could also be getting stuck then suddenly moving making the pressure jump around. Mine was damaged and would stick closed. Made the oil pressure gauge read off the scale (over 100psi) Easy to check and clean or replace the plunger. There is a modifiction where the plunger can be replaced with a ball that cannot jam although I just replaced my damaged plunger and have had no problems since. |
