Post subject: | Reskinning Clubman Doors |
Hey guys, This might not be done as much these days as there are still heaps of clubman doors floating around. But when we finally run out of good doors we'll look to reskinning them. Since there is no actual clubman door skins available... we need a current solution. Does anyone have experience in replacing the door skin of a Clubman door using a MK1 door skin??? I have taken on this job myself using a Magnum branded MK1 door skin and did not have much luck. The door skin was absolutely horrible in fitment. The reason i know this is that i was able to get my hands on a clubman passenger door skin which was a nice fit and a breeze to install. I would like to see if anyone knows if a Heritage branded door skin would fit any better? In regards to modifications to the MK1 skin. You will need to straighten the top fold of the door skin which was normally for the sliding windows, then trim this to size. The next part would be to remove the clubman door handle panel from a clubman door skin and weld this into the new MK1 skin. From my experience they are really the only 2 modifications you will need to do. Any information is much appreciated. PS. If you have a clubman driver side door in good condition and you live in Perth. Please PM me. |

Heritage use the machining from when they were being made, I assume they're still doing the skins as I've seen them recently and they're also still selling Clubman shells in the UK, Granted they're rather expensive.. |

But Uk clubmans were different to Aussie ones. The aussie ones had external hinges and Uk ones had internal. The UK clubman had a different style handle too. I think (but dont quote me) the corners may possible be a littel square then the aussie corners. I have heard this about english minis but not sure. but given that essentially all australian minis are mk1 a heritage mk1 door skin may fit (you will need to modify for a door handle though) |

Yes the UK clubman doors are different. The side that the door is hinged at, the bottom of that side is square on the UK ones but round on Aussie ones. As already mentioned the door handles are different too. |

We already know that the MK1 door skin is the same shape for the AU clubman except for the modifications i originally mentioned. Could anyone with experience re-skinning mini doors in general shed some light on this??? |
