Post subject: | Boiling battery??? |
While testing my new non leaking fuel cap - I noticed a lovely rotten egg gas smell. Check the battery, and sure enough the acid is merrily boiling away indicating over charging. (Can't find my multimeter to double check) Now I've recently put what I thought was a reco alternator on my late model clubby (ie the bearings weren't suffed!) Am I correct in assuming all the regulation is done on the alternator itself - and I can swap bits over from a worn out bearing but otherwise functioning alternator? Any tips here would be appreciated... |

Busted regulator, last one I bought cost me 25 dollars from an autosparky. The regulator monitors the voltage of a battery and decides if it needs a charge or not. If it doesn't do this, or the charge level coming out of the alternator is to high then battery will be overcharged by the alternator and will try to shed energy by boiling away. Other than that, yes it will swap directly over. I don't think it was too hard the last one I did. |

So a big soldering iron is required Wombat? I was hoping it was plug 'n' play. I've only got a little girly one. Might be time to find a pulsar alternator... |

Just checked the good book. I was thinking of replaceing the diodes. The regulator pack (if 16ACR alternator) is plug 'n' play If you need some written destructions give a yell and i'll scan and send them to you. |
