I don't know if I read it on here or not but someone was mentioning about making speedo faces. I'm after a magnolia 3 clock set but they seem to only make them in mph, not kph. Mini Spares UK part numbers DASH0100white DAS0100mag DASH0100red etc |

I did my own so I could correct the in-built 'safety' error. The speedo now reads spot on. |

The UK Smiths made stuff seems to have a built in error to show a faster speed than you are really doing by between 5 and 10 kph. The Japanese Instruments (Nipon Seki) all seem to have the same built in error, only theirs is more accurate, when it show 110 kph, your really only doing 102 kph, there is an 8 kph error in these. The Odometer is spot on, as measured over 500 km distance. So, knowing what the speed error was, I re-made a face to remove this 'safety' error. I think many / most new cars have similar built in errors. |

The Minispares magnolia faces do show kph but it is smaller writing than the mph numbers |

Speedos in any factory/standard car are allowed to be 10% out. That means a speedo showing 100kmh allows the car to be traveling at any where from 90 - 110 kmh. I used to work for a dealership and I have checked speedo speeds in relation to the wheel speed from the diagnostic computer. I would suggest that the gauges are set to the safer side to protect against getting caught speeding. |

I have a new UK Smiths 200KMH `Cooper S' one, with 165/70-10 tyres (A008) and 3.44 diff, my GPS reckons it's within 1KMH at 60, 80 and 100. Speedos used to comply with our ADRs if they read +/- 10%, but since 2006? new cars cannot read low at all. These must read from 0 error to 10% high. BTW my 2001 AU Ford is 10kmh out 110kmh. 110 on the GPS is 120 on the speedo. No wonder Commonwhore drivers all used to overtake me.

GT What process did you use to make the face, screen print, digital Sounds like a great Idea to sort out speedos with cars with a non standard set up of gears diffs etc Ta Kiwiinwgtn |
